Scientists have discovered that healthy people tend to have an alkaline pH and sick people are acidic. You can test your saliva pH with litmus paper. In our stressful world today and acid forming diets, OCEANMILK is a valuable aid in keeping our body fluids in an ideal slightly alkaline state.
A good approximation of tissue pH is easily obtained by testing the pH of your saliva . Follow these simple steps to test your pH at home.
Obtain and become familiar with the pH test paper 5.5 -7.5.
This paper measures the acid-alkaline state of saliva and urine only, not other fluids. Readings at the low end of the scale (below 7) indicate an acidic state, and those on the higher end above 7 a more alkaline state, 7 pH being neutral.
(Available from Dis-Chem, pharmacies and health shops)
- Ideal time to test is first thing in the morning before eating or drinking.
- Moisten a 3cm strip with saliva.
- Compare colour to the pH scale on the front of the dispenser or side of the box.
4.5 – 7.0pH = acid 7.0 – 7.5pH = healthy alkaline
Moisten a 3cm strip of pH paper with some saliva. Do not leave the paper in your mouth.
When the test paper is moistened, it will take on a colour. The colour relates to the acid or alkaline state of your saliva and ranges from yellow to dark blue. Match the colour of your test strip with the chart provided in your test kit. Any number below 7 means that the sample you are testing is on the acid side. The lower the number, the more acidic it is. Seven indicates a neutral state, neither acid nor alkaline.
Saliva readings should be above 7.0 pH the best being dark blue at 7.5pH indicating a perfect alkaline reading.
Your body’s vast network of systems works best when the pH of fluids is around neutral to slightly alkaline. Urine pH can tell you if it has slipped too far over to the acid side.
When you eat your normal diet of predominantly alkaline-forming foods your reading should be between 6.5pH and 7pH. (Please note this is different to the SALIVA indication)
Alkaline readings of 7pH – 8.pH and or a smell of ammonia are a tell-tale sign that the body is using emergency systems to keep going and is suffering from diet-induced mineral deprivation.
NB. If your urine is alkaline after eating acid ash foods, begin today to replenish your alkaline reserve.
